Gumbo Fest 2026 is a celebration of life after you sign up as an organ donor. We  gather to showcase our best recipes and honor the spirit of community to raise awareness and encourage organ donation.

Here, Magnolia Mary doesn’t just cook—she inspires. With a cast-iron pot as her stage and a roux as dark as Mississippi mud,  Magnolia Mary serves up more than a dish—she shares legacy. Southern hospitality style.

Born beneath the wide Mississippi sky, where all food originated on the family farm, Magnolia Mary learned early in life—that like gumbo—life is about making the most of what you’ve got and turning it into something unforgettable. Raised in the cotton fields of Mississippi, Magnolia Mary didn’t grow up with recipes written in books—Her recipes came from what was available in the woods and garden and the pasture. Then she would mix in a lot of love. As a young girl, she stood beside her  mama, tending a well-worn pot over an open flame. There was no such thing as “the perfect ingredient”—only whatever protein the day provided. Chicken, sausage, wild game, or whatever could be gathered—Magnolia Mary learned to build bold, soulful gumbo from it. Her mama taught her heart—how every pot should feed more than the body. Magnolia Mary just wants to have fun and she knows winning is part of the fun.  From early childhood she always chose winning.  She always chose her older sister, Happy Helen,  to help her win. When Magnolia would get tired of stirring the roux, it would be Happy Helen who took over, always fighting an uncontrollable fire that present day gumbo stirrers would not understand. Happy Helen still has burn scars from her gumbo stirring days when she became careless while sharing laughter with Magnolia.   In Magnolia Mary’s kitchen, there’s always laughter between the stirs.  Have you ever tasted a dish that told a story? If you ever find yourself near Magnolia Mary’s kitchen, you’ll see that every pot is filled not just with flavor, but with history and soul. Years later, those same lessons define the legend Magnolia Mary has become. Now known far and wide as the Cajun Queen, Magnolia Mary brings a commanding yet generous presence to every pot. Her gumbo is deep, rich, and layered with history—each spoonful carrying whispers of the cotton fields, the crackle of firewood, and the voices of the family who raised her. From humble beginnings to renowned chef, Magnolia Mary’s journey included local cookouts, family reunions, and still to come invitations to regional competitions. Her reputation grew with each event, until the title “Cajun Queen” became a badge of honor, earned through skill, kindness, and the unforgettable warmth of her kitchen.  Competitors fear her. Crowds adore her. Festival attendees often remark, “You don’t just taste Magnolia Mary’s gumbo—you feel it.” Guests leave their table feeling comforted and inspired, knowing they’ve experienced something rare. Not just a recipe… but a story. All hail Magnolia Mary, the Cajun Queen—where every bowl is born from grit, grace, and a lifetime of flavor. If you ever find yourself near her kitchen, pull up a chair, listen to the laughter, and savor a taste of history. Magnolia Mary welcomes everyone, serving generosity and tradition with every spoonful.
