For Chef Jeff, gumbo isn’t just a recipe—it’s a lifetime of stories stirred into a pot.

Growing up along the mighty Missouri River, Jeff earned the nickname “river rat” early in life. Days were spent fishing muddy banks, running boats, cooking outdoors, and learning that the best meals were the ones shared with good people after a long day on the water. Somewhere along those riverbanks, he discovered gumbo—a hearty, soulful dish that reminded him of everything he loved about life: community, flavor, hard work, and tradition.

Over the years, Jeff perfected his craft, spending decades cooking gumbo Gulf Coast style with rich roux, bold seasoning, smoked sausage, seafood, and slow-simmered flavor that could warm a soul from the inside out. Friends and family quickly learned that if Chef Jeff was tending the pot, nobody was leaving hungry.

But life eventually carried him west to Oregon, where a whole new chapter began. Surrounded by towering evergreens, fresh coastal seafood, and Pacific Northwest ingredients, Jeff started experimenting with the gumbo he had spent years mastering. What emerged was something uniquely his own—“Pacific NW Gumbo.”

Blending Gulf Coast tradition with Oregon inspiration, Chef Jeff’s signature gumbo brings together classic Cajun soul with Pacific Northwest flavor. Fresh regional seafood, Northwest smoked meats, and local ingredients meet the deep, comforting richness of traditional gumbo in a dish that represents both where he came from and where life carried him.

Now, Chef Jeff is bringing his famous Pacific NW Gumbo to Gumbo Fest 2026, where his river-rat roots and decades of gumbo-making experience are sure to shine.
